Once again, prolific Sharon Mwendwa was the toast of the moment when she inspired Engineering Brigade to an emphatic 5-0 win over Laikipia Air Base in yesterday’s Chief of Defence Forces Women’s Football Cup at 3 Kenya Rifles Grounds, in Lanet.

After a frustrating barren first half, Pauline Mutisya opened the floodgates in the 54th minute before Mwendwa hit a quadruple in the 68th, 72nd, 82nd and 90th to take her goals tally to seven.

The thrashing came barely a day after Mwendwa scored a hat-trick in Engineer’s 4-1 win over Sixth Brigade in their second Group A match.

Fancied Engineer are at the top of the group with sixth points. The tournament is being used to select Ulinzi Starlets that will take part in the Kenya Women Premier League this season.

In the other Group A matches, Kahawa Garrison humiliated Sixth Brigade 13-0 as Moi Air Base narrowly beat Second Brigade 1-0 in a Group B encounter.

Emily Auma was the heroine of the day with her goal on the stroke of the halftime helping Moi Base to maintain their unbeaten run.

The victory saw MAB go top of the group with six points after their previous 3-1 win over Artillery Brigade at the 81 Tank Battalion Grounds.

Armoured Brigade also trounced Artillery Brigade 3-1 to keep MAB on their toes, as the chase for the semifinal qualification hots up.
