Some of the country’s leading lady golfers will Saturday and Sunday converge at the Home of Golf, the Muthaiga Golf Club, for the 80th Edition of the Eileen Belcher Tournament. At least 100 lady golfers are expected to compete in the 54-hole event, playing in foursomes.

Teams will score two points for a match won and a point for a match halved.

Clubs have been grouped into four zones, namely blue, yellow, green and red. Blue zone will comprise Muthaiga, Windsor, Machakos and Coast clubs, while the the Yellow zone shall constitute Vet Lab, Sigona, Railway and Rift Valley.

Karen, Limuru and Western will make the green zone with the final grouping dubbed red zone drawing together Royal, Golf Park and Central.

Each of the four zones is made up of several clubs forming a team of three four pairs with a reserve, each team featuring three divisions - A, B, and C.

Every team will be led by a captain, all of whom are from the various clubs in Nairobi but, during this tournament, they would not represent their clubs; instead they will lead their respective zones, made up of different clubs.

Kenya Ladies Golf Union chair, Lucy Muhinga, says the tournament attracting so many golfers was evidence of its competitiveness.

“It is very hard to tell which team will emerge the 2018 winners,” she said.

“It is going to be a very competitive affair. The ladies look forward to a fun weekend and enjoy getting to know each other as they play great golf.”

Red are the defending champions, having won in 2017, while yellow come to Muthaiga to defend the Palmer Trophy they won last year.
