Rift Valley retain national athletics crown

Rift Valley Region successfully swept the boards to retain the overall title as Kenya national primary schools athletics championships came to an end at Shanzu Teachers Training College in Mombasa.

The champions had little mercy to their opponents as they bagged both boys and girls titles. Nyanza Region was second while Western finished third.

Rift Valley retained the title after bagging 452 points, Nyanza had 252 and Western 233.

Eastern Region were fourth with 180 points, Coast (123), Central (59), Nairobi (21) and North Eastern had 12 points.

In field events, Rift Valley were clearly a class above the rest after amassing 90 points to win the boys' overall title while Coast had 37 points. Western bagged 33 points in third spot.

Others were Eastern (29), Nyanza (28), Central (4), Nairobi (4) and North Eastern had one point.

In girls’ field events, Rift Valley won with 50 points beating Western and Nyanza, who tied on 30 points each.

Others were Coast (29), Eastern (28), Central (10) and Nairobi (3). North Eastern had no point.

In track events (boys), Rift Valley won with 163 points, while Western and Nyanza had 78 and 67 points.

In girls' event, Rift Valley once again emerged tops with 191 points while Nyanza had 151 points and Western 117.

In boys' overall ranking, Rift Valley bagged 253 points and Western 111 points.
