Former Football Kenya Federation boss Sam Nyamweya together with Kenya football legends have formed a Sports Stars Foundation with the aim of empowering sportsmen in their post-playing years.

The foundation is not only limited to footballers but is open to all sportsmen across all disciplines. The main objective of the initiative is to start a Savings and Credit Association in future to financially help the sportsmen.

European Football Association advisor Dr Michael Hopkins has already accepted to fundraise for the foundation while Mathare Youth Sports Association founder Bob Munro will sit in the board as one of the advisors.

Former footballers who have brought glory to Kenya in December last year to deliberate on the matter.

The poor standards and high poverty levels among former Kenyan sportsmen and women is a major concern.

“It is also the idea for forming the foundation.

“Other concerns are the dwindling standards of Kenyan football and lack of passion for the game by current players.

The foundation will also use sports to preach peace and break yolks of tribal division created by politics.
