Handball: Kenyans share spoils in regional contest

Black Mamba and Strathmore tied 25-25 as the East and Central Africa Handball Club Championship entered day three in Temeke, Tanzania, yesterday.

Mamba’s Paul Ondara scored six goals to emerge the matches’ top scorer while teammate Martini Nguli netted five.

Strathmore’s Rashid Ingwela and Simon Mutuku scored five goals apiece as the side’s top scores.

Strathmore led (12-11) at the break but failed to hang on the lead as they relaxed and thus allowed their opponents to level terms on the final whistle.

The two teams met for the second time this week after a Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) national league match where Mamba won to extend their unbeaten run in the season.

“The championship has been tough. We lost against Police and they were looking for maximum points against Strathmore. But we are glad to have collected a point. It wasn’t an easy match considering the fact that we played them last weekend.”

“Chances of winning the title are slowly fading away now that Police have not lost a single match in the championship,” said Martin Abunde, the Black Mamba coach.” [Rebecca Jebet]
