Why Governor Mutua’s lawyers withdrew from Wavinya Ndeti’s petition

Lawyers representing Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua have withdrawn from a petition filed by former Kathiani Member of Parliament Wavinya Ndeti, challenging his win on the August 8 elections.

Governor Mutua’s lawyers Bernard Mung’ata, Wilfred Nyamu and Wahome Gatonye withdrew from the petition after Justice Aggrey Muchelule refused to adjourn the case despite a notice of appeal at the High Court to allow the lawyer time to prepare more applications against the petition.

The Machakos governor was forced to personally appear before the court and plead with the judge to adjourn the proceedings to allow his lawyers more time to represent him.

Justice Muchelule however agreed to adjourn the hearing to next week.

Wavinya Ndeti had filed a petition citing that the results for the Machakos governorship were manipulated and claimed that she was the won the election. Governor Mutua managed to garner 249, 954 votes against Ms Ndeti who got 209, 233 votes.
