Wanyama may a face a task of getting to Spurs first team

Injury could spoil Wanyama's club first team chances

Kenya's skipper and Tottenham Hotspurs defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama may be poised to face some hurdles in his quest to reclaim his spot at Spurs first team in the near future.

Wanyama picked up an injury at the start of English Premier League campaign in August and has since made only a couple of premier league appearances for the North London club.

This has compelled Spurs Coach Mauricio Pochetino to use young English midfielder Harry Winks as a midfield partner for Moussa Dembele or Eric Dier.

Pochetino has maintained that Wanyama may still be sidelined for longer period considering that they are being cautious against rushing him.

But not only is the injury the primary concern for Wanyama, but Winks is. The young Englishman has shown positive development after staging impressive performances against big teams.

While playing against Real Madrid in the Uefa Champions League Second leg tie at Wembley Stadium in November 1, Winks paired Dier in midfield which outperformed Real Madrid trio of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Carlos Casemiro. Spurs won the game 3:1 courtesy of Delle Alli's brace and Kane's strike. This followed a 1-1 draw at Santiago Bernabeu between the two sides.

Wanyama could be sidelined up to early 2018 and he will have to face a race to be fit as well as dislodging the surging Winks to reclaim his spot. However, for a man who proves crucial for the team and earns the team at least a point in his presence, his return could be just inevitable.

Analysis by Sky Sports reveal that in English premier league season of 2016/2017, Spurs went for unbeaten home record run of 14 games, where they won 12 and drew two after bringing in the Kenyan midfielder and playing him in all those fixtures. The 25 year old was also lauded for such a role while playing for Southampton.
