Football: Thika Queens maul Spedag in women’s league

Mercy Achieng and Fauzia Omar pulled a brace each as Thika Queens humbled hapless Spedag 4-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League Zone A match at Thika Sub-County Stadium yesterday.

Achieng opened the score sheet on the 20th minute before Omar added another one ten minutes later.

The Mombasa-based side were forced to go to the break two goals down and on resumption, nothing changed as Achieng’ completed her brace in the 54th minute.

Omar was at it again as she converted from the spot with 15 minutes to go to ensure the defending champions keep their unbeaten run this season.

The win means Thika Queens will represent the zone in the national play-offs for the second consecutive season and will also be seeking their third consecutive title.

Spedag’s chances of taking part in the play-offs went up in smoke following the defeat with Makolanders expected to take part in the play-offs following their spirited performance this season. Makolanders are currently second on the log behind Thika Queens.

Vihiga Leeds will take on Palos in an early kick off today. [Rebecca Jebet]
