A university student is being held by police in Bondo for allegedly sending exam materials to a secondary school teacher.

The suspect is reported to have sent the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam materials to Nyawita Mixed Secondary School Principal George Ogunde through social media.

Area Director of Education Elisha Omala said the suspect allegedly sent images of a Kiswahili Lugha paper at around 10am through a Whatsapp message.

"The information we are getting is that the boy has a relative sitting the exam in the said school and he decided to send the materials to the principal and further instructed him through a text message to share with the students," Mr Omala told The Standard.

RAISED ALARM

He added that it was the principal who raised the alarm before the boy was traced and arrested yesterday.

The education officer further said they were still scrutinising the materials to establish if they were the real exams.

"I am still reluctant to comment on this matter until proper scrutiny is done on the alleged materials," he said.

Efforts to reach the principal for comment were futile since his phone was switched off.

Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie, who confirmed the incident, said they had launched investigations into the matter.

"It is true that the suspect is in police custody and we are conducting investigations to establish the intention of the materials that were sent by the suspect," said Mr Kiarie.
