Wahome Gakuru to buried at his Kirichu home

The burial date for Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru, who perished in a horrific road accident on Tuesday morning, has been tentatively set for November 18.

A statement from family spokesman confirms that Gakuru will be buried at his Kirichu home in Nyeri Town Contituency.

“We have settled on the date as we wait on the availability of the President on that day since this will be a State burial,” said family spokesman, Muthui Kariuki.

The late governor’s burial is steered by three committees at the national, county and family level. ICT Cabinet Secretary Evan Mucheru will head the national team from Nairobi while Nyeri County Deputy Governor, Mutahi Kahiga will lead the county team.

“…we will inform the people of Nyeri where they will meet daily to express their condolences until we have the burial,” added Muthui.

While eulogising the governor, Deputy Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga assured  Nyeri  people that he will duly continue with the vision of Dr Gakuru.

“It is time for us to stand together. Nyeri will stand again as we have suffered adversity before. The appointees of the governor will continue to work together to deliver his vision,” said Mutahi.

Dr Gakuru’s eldest son is sitting his Kenya Certificate of sSecondary Education (KCSE) papers and is expected to be through by the set date as the requiem mass is slated for next week.
