The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has condemned the roughing up of its Returning Officer by Kandara MP Alice Wahome on Friday.

In a statement issued on Saturday, IEBC said Wahome harassed a Returning Officer and such an election offence must be punished.

Chaos ensued in Kandara, Murang’a County, when the area MP confronted the constituency’s Returning Officer, Martin Malonza, over presidential poll results.

According to Wahome, she was called by her agents who told her that Mr Malonza had disallowed them to sign Form 34B.

"I was ten minutes away from the centre and my agents called me alerting me that Malonza had refused them to sign and I called the RO to alert him to wait for me but he did not pick [the call] so I asked my agents to delay so I could arrive," she said.

"I needed the RO to acknowledge that in his report that a whole stream had been left out and in my capacity as the Constituency Chief Agent, this had to be on record, the RO had snatched the forms from other agents and was seeking to leave without them being signed,” she pointed out.

The video that was recorded at the Ng’araria Girls Secondary School tallying centre, went viral as Kenyans took to social media to strongly condemn the actions of the legislator.
