A trader is counting his losses after a fire razed his hotel on Monday night. According to Patel Truff, the owner of Dream King Restaurant, the fire is suspected to have been started by an electric fault.

“The fire broke out at around 10pm and we suspect an electric short circuit triggered it because it spread fast,” said Mr Truff.

He said the fire was also accelerated by the fact that the hotel was timber-walled, adding that by the time the county fire engine responded 15 minutes later, nothing could be salvaged.

“We called the fire brigade and they responded fast, but the fire was wild. I have incurred a loss of more than Sh3 million,” said Truff. Narok Town MCA Bernard Torome, who was among the first to arrive at the scene, said the incident was unfortunate and pledged support for the businessman to restart his business.

“We are committed to safeguarding the businesses of our investors, that is why the county recently bought fire engines.

We shall look for ways to get Patel back to his feet,” said the MCA. Area OCPD Joseph Kisombe ruled out foul play.

"We are yet to do the valuation of the losses,” he said.
