Chebukati can’t guarantee credible repeat poll – Here’s his full statement explaining why

As Kenya’s political crisis deepens, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati admitted that he cannot guarantee free, fair and credible polls on October 26th.

The country was shocked by the resignation of one of IEBC’s commissioners, Roselyn Akombe, who left the country saying that the commission was under siege.

She sent her letter of resignation while in New York, USA on Wednesday, 18th October 2017.

“The burden placed on me as chairman is huge. Yet, I can’t move forward with a divided commission. I can’t move forward when presidential candidates refuse to put their personal interests aside and for once, serve their country,” said Chebukati.

In a detailed statement, Chebukati explained the challenges facing him and the Commission, also condemning political leaders who have failed to put their interests aside.
