Civil society organisations want IEBC officials charged over August 8 polls

IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati and CEO Ezra Chiloba.

A consortium of civil society organisations want action taken against some election officials.

The activists delivered a petition to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati and Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to push for action against officials linked to election malpractice.

The petitioners want IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba, two commissioners, and senior staff barred from conducting the fresh presidential election and prosecuted following a bungled August 8 election that was nullified by the Supreme Court.

Members of the rights groups matched from Uhuru Park to the IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers, Nairobi, and delivered a two-page petition to the IEBC chairman, demanding that he sack the electoral officials involved in the flawed elections.

The groups comprised 12 organisations among them Kenya Human Human Rights Commission, Independent Legal Medico Unit, and African Centre for Open Governance.
