Safaricom has termed a success the weekend’s upgrade of its M-Pesa platform that saw it go offline for more than 10 hours.

The upgrade started on Saturday at 10pm and ended on Sunday at 11am, during which all M-Pesa services were unavailable.

It came a decade after the launch of the service and two years after the deployment of a local platform that it said had enhanced its capacity. In August, the telco announced the availability of the revamped M-Pesa application programming interfaces (APIs).
