ODM leaders in Kisii congratulate Supreme Court for 'wise' judgement

Kisii Town residents stormed into the streets immediately Chief Justice David Maraga announced the 2017 Presidential Elections as null and void ordering for a fresh elections in the next 60 days.

Residents riding on motorcycles stormed the Town hooting and dancing to songs in praise of Chief Justice Maraga and NASA Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga.

ODM National Treasurer Mr Timothy Bosire said opposition has been denied victory for too long and it is clear that Jubilee rigged the elections.

"We now invite the World Community through United Nations to ensure that we have a credible and free elections win the next 60 days. UN sponsored programs should ensure that we have proper process for the November Presidential elections," said Bosire.

Bosire said that IEBC has been conducting shoddy presidential elections for long that has led to poor leadership adding that Kenya should be among the Countries in the World to embrace democracy.

The ODM National Treasurer said that those who committed election irregularities including IEBC Chairman should face the law.

He observed that the various vies from the Supreme Court Judges was a clear indication that the Judiciary respects the rule of law. "We must respect those who gave their dissenting views because that is their constitutional right," he said.

He explained that with the Supreme Court Judgement, it was clear that IEBC could have rigged in some leaders right from the grassroot level adding that does not invalidate the election of those who were fairly elected.

"This is an opportunity to deal with the corruption once and for all. Bad leadership has hampered development and economic growth in this country," he added.
 

Kisii County ODM Chairman Mr Samuel Omwando hailed the Supreme Court decision saying Kenya has been yearning for change.


"This is the liberation Kenyan has been longing for more than a decade. It is time to go back and have a strategy that will give us victory. The opposition will emerge victorious after the 60 days period," said Mr Omwando.


He thanked the Supreme Judges who made the Judgement. "Maraga has shown that the Judiciary can remain independent and make determinations that are in line with the Constitution and the will of the people."

In Nyamira, Residents flocked the streets of Nyamira as they celebrated the ruling of Supreme Court.

Song and dance broke out across the entire town immediately hundreds of youth from the outskirt suburbs of Kebirigo, Nyaramba and Sironga Town trooped to the town on motorbikes and matatus as they celebrated the outcome which overturned the Presidential poll results.

The jubilant youth sang songs and chanted pro-Nasa leader Raila Odinga slogans.

"We now have confidence in the Kenyan judiciary and we think Justice David Maraga has done justice in the case," said Mr Evans Nyakundi, a resident.

However, even as the celebrations rocked the town, dissenting opinions emerged from among leaders with some saying all the elections should be nullified.

Justus Rasugu who unsuccessfully sought the Kisii Senatorial seat said all the seats should have been nullified just as the Presidential one.

"We cannot accept and move on that the presidential elections were the only ones which had problems, let them (Supreme Court) also nullify all the other seats so that we have fresh general elelections," said Mr Rasugu.


John Ombati, a Kisii Town businessman said that the Judgement made by Chief Justice Maraga, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Justice Smokin Wanjala and Justice Isaac Lenaola had redeemed the image of the Judiciary.

"Chief Justice Maraga has done the Omogusii Community proud by standing by the truth that the recently held Presidential election was not conducted as it was expected and the IEBC should carry out fresh election in the next two months,'' said Ombati.
