Ladies' day out at duel: Tanzania and Uganda ladies to provided stern test for Kenyans in regional contest
Lady golfers converge at the Coast for tourney while Karichu maintains KAGC lead in local front
Kenyan lady golfers face an uphill task against leading Tanzanian and Ugandan counterparts when they meet for this year’s annual Ladies Coast open from tomorrow.
The three-day event tees off at the par 72 Leisure Resort course in Kwale County tomorrow sponsored by Prime Bank before Ken Freight-sponsored action moves to the par 72 Vipingo course in Kilifi county on Wednesday.
They will wind up at the par 71 Nyali Course in Mombasa County on Thursday for a gruelling 36-hole event sponsored jointly by the Standard Group, Solian, KCB, Coca Cola, Tudor Healthcare, and Friends of Lady Captain (Joyce Masai).
The Tanzanian team includes handicap three Madina Idd from Arusha and handicap five Angel Eaton from Dar es Salaam.
Kenya will bank on, among others, Kiambu’s handicap five Joyce Wanjiru, Nakuru’s handicap eight Esther Chumo and handicap eight S. Kaime, Kiambu’s handicap 8 Wanjiru Karume, and Nyali’s lady captain Joyce Masai playing off handicap 11.
Elsewhere, Limuru’s John Karichu maintained his lead in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship ranking on 340.3 points after the Coast Open championships in Mombasa.
Vet lab’s Mike Kisia, who shot up from number four, is second on 287 after emerging the overall winner at the Coast open that earned him 60 points.
Vet lab’s Edwin Mudanyi (257.9) and Railway’s Alfred Nandwa (253.4) are third and fourth.
The next championships will be at Vet lab Sports Club, Kabet, from August 5 to 6.
