Beneficiaries of Equity Bank's airlift programme to global universities have now hit 400. This is after a new crop of 73 scholars were flagged off to study in various universities under the Equity Leaders Programme (ELP).

The students are set to join Princeton University, Yale, Amherst, Duke, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, University of Toronto, Michigan State University, University of Edinburg and Carnegie Mellon University, among others.

The programme aims at empowering young academically gifted scholars by supporting their access to education in public universities in Kenya and around the globe, as well as equipping them with leadership skills.

The value of the scholarships currently stands at Sh10 billion. The money caters for tuition, air tickets and related expenses while at the respective universities for the entire period of studies.

Equity Group Chief Executive and Chairman of the Equity Group Foundation Dr James Mwangi advised the scholars to focus on academic pursuit, leadership training and networking.
