Nairobi governorship candidate Peter Kenneth has listed expansion of the transport system, reliable water supply, and expansion of health services as his ingredients to ‘renewing city’s lost glory’.

The fight against corruption, which Kenneth promises to deal with through fiscal discipline and strict adherence to procurement laws, also makes it to the top items he plans to do should he be elected on August 8.

He also pledges to fix traffic jam by replacing 16 roundabouts in the city with overpasses and underpasses.

Kenneth, an independent candidate, also promises to establish a mass transit and light rail system to ease traffic congestion in the capital city.

“We will revamp public transport terminuses and ensure sufficient space and up-to-date management system. Rehabilitate and upgrade our county road network, build walkways, and cycling paths,” pledges Kenneth.

Traffic jam is one of the major concerns to the about five million residents of Nairobi, thus it is no surprise that all the candidates seeking to run the county government are making pledges on how they plan to fix the problem.

In dealing with water shortage, Kenneth is promising to modernise the water and sewerage system and use technology to monitor water infrastructure.

He promises to make the commodity reliable and affordable to all Nairobi residents, especially slum dwellers.

Nairobi has been facing regular water shortages, partly caused by cartels whose intention is to disrupt supply to give them a market to hawk the commodity.

In the health sector, the 2013 presidential candidate plans to make health care more accessible to all residents by ensuring that each of the 17 constituencies in Nairobi have at least a functional dispensary. He will also equip each constituency with emergency services such as ambulances.

“We will resource, equip, and expand health facilities and ensure accessible, affordable health care for all and provide a functional dispensary for primary health care in every constituency,” pledges Kenneth. On education, he pledges to expand learning facilities with a focus on early childhood education and technical training institutes.

His administration would achieve this by investing in facilities for ECD in all county schools. He further pledges to use community-based garbage collection to ensure the city is clean.
