Early train departure leaves Nairobi commuters stranded in Syokimau

Scores of passengers were Monday stranded at the Syokimau Railway Station after the train departed earlier than usual. The early departure was the result of a revision of the Nairobi Commuter Train schedule in a move aimed at increasing customers' travelling experience.

The new schedule released by the Kenya Railways Corporation (KR) shows that the commuter train departs from Nairobi Railway Station at 7:30am, 30 minutes earlier than before. The train then stops at the Makadara station at 7:44am before making another stop at Imara Daima Station at 7:58am.

It then makes its way to its final stop, arriving at the Nairobi Terminus (where the Madaraka Express departs from) at 8.20am.

According to the official KRC statement, the train is scheduled to depart from Syokimau at 6:30am and pass through Imara Daima at 6:44am. It makes another stop in Makadara at 6.58am before arriving at the Nairobi Railway Station at 7:10am.

"The new schedule will ensure that passengers using the commuter link to the SGR Nairobi Terminus have ample time to prepare to board the Madaraka Express before departure time (to Mombasa)," said KR Managing Director Atanas Maina.

Mr Maina added that the new timings were expected to increase the efficiency of public transport and contribute further to the growth of the sector and the economy at large.
