Government appoints Health CS Cleopa Mailu to head funeral committee for Nkaissery

The Government has established a funeral committee to work alongside the family of the late interior CS Joseph Nkaissery.

Head of Public of Service Joseph Kinyua said the committee will be chaired by Health Cabinet Secretary Dr Cleopa Mailu.

Nkaissery's family also appointed his personal assistant Saitoti Ole Maika as a spokesperson.

"The terms of reference of the Committee will be to provide all possible assistance to the family of our departed colleague and to ensure that the Late Cabinet Secretary receives an honourable and dignified sendoff befitting his status as a gallant and true patriot," said Kinyua.

He further said the public will be provided with more information from Monday and will be done jointly by family and the state.

Nkaissery, 67, died after collapsing at his Karen home on Saturday.

Nkaissery had a busy day on Friday before he went home where he collapsed and died. He was confirmed dead at the Karen hospital.

He had earlier on attended prayer meeting at Uhuru Park together with president Kenyatta and other government officials, visited Kasarani stadium and went to his Nyayo House office before leaving for Bomas of Kenya for a meeting and later home.

A team of detectives is investigating the death and a postmortem exercise on his body is slated for Monday at the Lee Funeral Home.
