Kakamega send poor Boystown to the cleaners

Green Commandos pump 13 goals past hapless team from North Eastern.

Kakamega High School’s Green Commandos made a dream return to the nationals with an impressive 13-0 win over Boystown of North Eastern as the secondary schools Term Two B games began yesterday at Moi Nyeri Complex Primary School.

Four goals from striker Henry Juma inspired Green Commandos to the emphatic win in their Group A opener. Kakamega, who have won the football title a record 12 times, led 5-0 at the break.

James Mazembe, Chris Alpha and Ronald Sichenje scored a brace each as the former champions marked their return in style. The team missed out on the last two editions since winning in 2014.

Marvin Odhiambo and Evans Odhiambo also got their names on the score sheet in Kakamega's big win.

Kakamega coach Brendan Mwinamo warned opponents that his team means business.

“This is just the start we desired. The result shows that we mean business and we will only rest once we achieve our main objective,” Mwinamo said.

Kakamega, who are seeking to reclaim the national title, were boosted with the presence of Sichenje and forward Joshua Otieno, who traveled to Hull City for a past assignment. Sichenje was last year attached to the La Masia Academy in Barcelona, while Otieno was part of the SportPesa All Stars team that toured England.

The duo impressed as Kakamega imposed themselves in the tie. It was a bad day in office for the Boystown as their goalkeeper Noor Mohammed picked the ball 13 times from his net.

In another Group A encounter, 2013 runners-up Kathungi Boys of Eastern beat Tetu from Central 3-1. Goals from Dennis Malombe and Dalton Muthelya fired Kathungi to a 2-0 halftime lead.

Tetu, who took up the place of 2015 winners Passenga, pulled one back through Stanley King’ori, before Kevin Mwendwa curled home a beautiful free-kick in the 87th minute to seal Kathungi’s win.

In girls’ matches, former winners Wiyeta Girls opened their account with a 4-2 win against Western Region champions Ibinzo Girls in the Group A match.

Wiyeta took control of the match racing to a 2-0 lead in the opening half hour through Martha Amunyolche and Centrix Shikangwa.

The former champions added another goal three minutes after the restart through Lavenda Lihamo’s header.

Ibinzo pulled two back through Cynthia Shilwato and Alice Mideri, but Monica Etot scored Wiyeta’s fourth. In the other group tie, Nginda Girls beat Kwale Girls 2-0.
