Trying to get a hang of makeup basics can be quite intimidating. Not to worry though. Makeup, like many things, involves trial and error and lots of practice, but a little help never hurts. I've compiled a few simple and effective tips that every newbie needs in order to fully dive into the realm of makeup
1. Keep up a good skin care routine
Skin care regimen... Beauty routine... Getting dolled up.... Call it what you will; how you treat your face matters. The products you use – and don't use – drastically affect what your skin will look like years down the line, so develop a great skin care routine, including daily cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
2. Foundation - What and why:
Even if you don't wear makeup every day, it's good to have foundation on hand for those times you want to look flawless. Your skin type should determine what kind of foundation you choose. If you have dry skin, try a liquid or hydrating foundation. Use powder or matte products for oily skin.
3. Concealer
To cover zits, dark circles, and redness, a good concealer is key. On days when you want to skip the foundation, you can just dot on concealer and go.
4. Waterproof mascara
If you only have one mascara in your makeup bag, make it waterproof. That way, you'll be prepared for everything, from a hot and humid day to a teary moment at a wedding. Waterproof mascara can be tough to get off; use an oil-based makeup remover so you don't pull at your lashes.
5. Nude eye shadow palette
Having an eye shadow kit with beiges, browns, bronzes and golds in it will have you basically set for life. You can go from a natural, everyday look to a glam smokey eye in no time at all.
6. A bold lipstick
Even if you are more of a lip gloss girl, you need one good lipstick in your makeup bag for special occasions. It's also a lifesaver on days you oversleep. Just swipe it on, and you'll look instantly polished.
