The Barcelona striker and family went back to his first club, Nacional, where a new pitch has been named in his honour- According to the Sun
He broke down in front of the assembled crowd at the Luis Alberto Suarez pitch at Nacional’s Los Cespedes training complex in Montevideo.
He said: “The feeling is of emotion and joy. For a long time I couldn’t come, everyone will understand that because of a calendar issue which is difficult to compromise.
“I wanted my children to see where I come from, where I was born as a footballer.”
Suarez joined the Nacional senior ranks at the tender age of 16 having entered the club’s youth system two years earlier.
It was after that, in 2006, that the trip to Europe changed his life, beginning with a spell at Dutch club Groningen.
But despite his amazing success, Suarez was only too eager to point out to other kids there how they too can reach the very top.
