Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a move for former Tottenham left-back Yuri Berchiche, who didn’t play a single match at White Hart Lane.

According to Marca, Zinedine Zidane is looking for a replacement for Fabio Coentrao to fight with Marcelo for a place in the Bernabeu side- Accordinf to The Sun

Berchiche has impressed in an exciting Real Sociedad team this season and is similar to Marcelo in the way that he can bomb forward quickly without leaving the team exposed at the back.

The 27-year-old joined Tottenham’s academy in 2007 after being poached from Athletic Bilbao.

And he made his professional debut two years later at Cheltenham Town, making nine appearances in a loan spell.

Nobody could have imagined he would rock up at Real Madrid when he was released by Spurs in 2010 and joined Spanish third tier side Real Union.

But he moved to Real Sociedad in 2012 and impressed enough during two years on loan at Eibar to force his way into the Basque club’s plans.

And Berchiche has also impressed the Spain international coach, and fellow Basque, Julen Lopetegui.

He forced his way into Lopetegui’s 40-man preliminary squad for La Roja’s friendly against France and qualifier against Israel.

Although he did miss the final cut for the matches, a Spain call-up will be just a matter of time if he gets some games at the Bernabeu under his belt.
