There may be more dead voters in IEBC register - Find out why

The recently released audit report by KPMG that the voters’ register has up to one million dead voters has taken Kenyans by surprise.

The IEBC has come out to strongly defend this report by blaming this on the registration process. Although the final list has not been drawn up after the verification of voters details, we expect that these figures will rise.

By IEBC claiming the voter registration was marred with irregularities implies that its officials were not properly trained. This raises questions on whether the officials conducting the elections will ensure credibility.

If the details of a voter are not correctly captured this could affect many other crucial services one may seek from government.

The IEBC should act quickly to rectify this situation early enough. The commission should ensure presiding and returning officers including other electoral staff are well trained to conduct credible elections. The register of voters should be up to date to avert rigging claims.
