Cane farmers contracted by Mumias Sugar Company have accused Opposition leaders of shielding individuals who looted from the miller.

The farmers, who demonstrated along the Mumias-Kakamega road, told National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders to forget their votes for not supporting efforts to prosecute the culprits.

"We want those who looted Mumias to be arrested and prosecuted. NASA is shielding people who stole from Mumias and unless they tell them to pay back what they took, no votes for NASA," said Juvenalis Orao, a cane farmer.

He said the county government should also explain how Sh200 million it gave to pay cane farmers was utilised.

"I have supplied the factory with my cane. For two years I have not received any payment yet the county tells us it released money to pay farmers."

Godfrey Lutomia asked Opposition leaders to stop politicising issues affecting cane farmers.

"We have evidence and the suspects should be arrested. We will demonstrate until they bow to our demands," he said.
