Marco Silva quits Hull City

Marco silva has activated a release clause in his Hull contract to set up a departure.

Portuguese boss Silva took over in the KCOM Stadium hot seat in January after the club sacked Mike Phelan after just fourth months in charge.

Silva met with owners Assem and Ehab Allam earlier in the week before formally quitting.

Silva failed to save the Tigers from slipping into the Championship after finishing 18th - six points adrift of safety.

Hull won six out of the 18 Premier League games with Silva at the helm.

His final match saw his already relegated side suffer a 7-1 mauling to Tottenham - with Harry Kane bagging a hat-trick.

Silva saw his side lose their last three games - as his profile went up.

Southampton, Watford and Crystal Palace were all keen on making Silva their new managers - but homeland side Porto appear to top the queue.

A move back home would mean a leap to Champions League football.

Silva arrived in England having earned a reputation at Estoril, Sporting Lisbon and Olympiacos.
