Mixed reactions from Kenyans on Mugabe’s remarks about sex and relationships

Africa’s oldest president, Robert Mugabe has shot into the limelight after writing a controversial quote about making it clear. His comment about relationships and sex has elicited mixed reactions from a good number of Kenyans.

Mugabe wrote this on his Instagram page:

“Make it clear

If you want a relationship make it clear.If sex is what you want just make it clear.If you just need to talk to someone when your partner is acting up just shoot clear.If you want him or her for money not love just make it clear. Do not complicate other’s life. Deception leads to complication. I rest my case.”

According to Mugabe many people in relationships or marriages these days have trouble being assertive. They struggle with communicating their needs to their partners. They shy away from reality and don’t want to conflicts with their partners.

He further said that to keep your relationship strong and happy, it’s up to you to make your needs clearly known because you have a right to ask for the things you need in a relationship or marriage.

A cording to some people they rely on “mind-reading,” believing their partners should intuitively know what they need without them having to say anything.

“If I make it clear it's sex they will think you are using them, if they make it clear its money, eventually feelings will attach if you get a woman who understands you enough to cut down the supply,” said Curtis Barry

“Which woman will say yes to sex only? Which woman will need your attention if you are broke? Which woman will want a relationship when she still wants 'more'?Which woman will want a man who wants his 'money'? Not in this generation, just hurt your feelings and when it’s done, life moves on,” added Gilbert Elan said.

Some agreed with Mugabe’s advice that required them to take the responsibility to themselves and their partner to be clear about their needs.According to him no one else, not even your partner, can read your mind and know what you need in the way of support, intimate contact, time alone, domestic order, sex, love, and so on.

“That's so true........... it’s really hurting when someone keeps things in his/her heart and the other person is left in the darkness....not knowing what she wants,” added Wendy Machuka
