The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal will rule on a Laikipia gubernatorial nomination stalemate.

Governor Joshua Irungu had challenged a ruling by Jubilee’s Appeals Tribunal that declared former Laikipia West MP Ndiritu Muriithi the winner.

JP’s tribunal had nullified Irungu’s victory after rejecting the results from Laikipia North constituency following a successful petition by Muriithi.

The JP tribunal, led by lawyer Hillary Sigei, revoked Irungu’s victory after finding 22,000 questionable extra votes in his favour.

Muriithi and another aspirant, former permanent secretary Thuita Mwangi, produced video evidence showing Irungu’s men distributing voting materials.

In Mwingi, the tribunal has stopped the issuance of a nomination certificate to Mwingi Central parliamentary aspirants until the Wiper Party corrects some anomalies.

At the same time, the tribunal cancelled the nomination certificate that was issued to aspirant Gideon Mulyungi and directed the Wiper party to address anomalies in 19 polling stations.

The panel also directed the party to address the complaints of one aspirant, Eric Mutua.

In Ugenya, an aspirant wants the Orange Democratic Movement’s National Elections Board to name the winner after the results were nullified over irregularities.

David Ohito said three days after ODM’s National Appeals Tribunal directed the party to carry out fresh nominations, aspirants were still in the dark about the repeat of the exercise.

In Taita-Taveta, Governor John Mruttu yesterday got a reprieve after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal ruled in his favour in a case challenging the nomination of Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu as the ODM candidate for the governor’s seat.

The governor had obtained an interim injunction prohibiting ODM and the MP from presenting a nomination certificate to the IEBC.

Mr Mwadeghu had earlier been issued a provisional certificate.
