Great Lakes University of Kisumu (Gluk) Vice Chancellor Ndede Amadi has denied claims that she has been replaced.

In a paid advertisement in The Standard last Wednesday, a section of the university’s management claimed that Prof Amadi no longer worked for the institution.

The notice stated that Prof Amadi was no longer allowed to transact business on behalf of the institution and directed students to shun communication from her.

The advert was a culmination of long-drawn leadership battles in the university pitting Ms Amadi against Prof David Kodia.

Prof Kodia was appointed to replace Amadi in an acting capacity when she was suspended in March, sparking protests by students.

The ensuing tension saw the students sent home.

Amadi resisted her suspension, claiming it was unprocedural. She went on to recall the students, but Kodia sent them back home.

Now Amadi who says she was reinstated by the university’s council on April 19 following intervention by a tribunal of the board of trustees has dismissed the notice as “defamatory publication sponsored by her temporary replacement.

According to Amadi, the notice was a late reaction to her memo recalling 1,400 students who had been sent home.

“This was an act of character assassination. I am back in the office and for now I want to focus on running the institution,” she said.
