The National Olympic Committee of Kenya gets down to a make-or-break meeting this afternoon to endorse a new constitution aimed at streamlining it. That the International Olympic Committee has sent two of its high-ranking officials demonstrates the world body’s seriousness to resolve the impasse over the constitution.

From the back-and-forth correspondences between Nock and IOC, it is clear there has been engagement on both sides, culminating in a new constitution the world Olympic body wants endorsed pronto to pave way for local elections.

It is instructive to note that the re-writing of this Constitution was instigated by shambolic handling of Team Kenya at last year’s Rio Olympic Games. More disturbing is that some of the officials are resisting this revolutionary document that strips voting rights of executives, who in any case are represented by their mother associations.

How in the first place they held voting rights is perplexing because it is against natural justice that certain federations held two votes. It is clear this was a tool designed to entrench some of these officials in office for life. If it takes this constitution to clean up the mess in Nock, the entire nation is behind IOC.
