Body of Governor Gachagua arrives from London

Remains of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua has arrived in Nairobi. Gachagua died on Friday in a London hospital after a long battle with cancer.

Kenya Airways plane carrying his body arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at about 5am.

Those who accompanied the remains from London were governors Ken Lusaka (Bungoma), Jack Ranguma (Kisumu) and Paul Chepkwony.

His daughters Mercy and Susan also were present as well as Kenya High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Lazarus Amayo.

At the airport the body was received by his widow Margret Karugaru and a host of governors.

Some of the governors present were Okoth Obado (Migori), Mwangi wa Iria (Muranga), Ukur Yattani (Marsabit), William Kabogo (Kiambu) among other county bosses.

MPs Mary Wambui, Esther Murugi and Devolution Cabinet Secretary were also present.

The leaders eulogised the late Gachagua as a great and courageous leader.

The body was moved to Lee Funeral Home ahead of Monday burial. The family said there will be only one requiem mass in Nyeri.
