Amani Voices Peace Project

Amani Voices is a peace initiative that was born in Moi University. Medical Students for Social Responsibility (MSSR)has fifty members at the University. MSSR is a student-run NGO that is focused on peace and health initiatives among communities.

We have participated in several peace events/forums and health programs within communities in Kenya.Students noticed that there were a lot of tribalism scandals regarding employment and selection of students to join Moi University.

The Amani Voices is set to begin in June 2017 and it has three sub-sections: peace walk, cultural event, and a free medical camp. The Peace walk will be 21km with banners, brochures, and T-shirts with messages of peace.

The Cultural event is about appreciating diversity in culture through plays, poems, food, dance, and runway. The free medical camp will be used to offer free medical services without discrimination against tribe or social class.

As Kenyan youths, we are supposed to be in the frontline in spearheading peace especially now that elections are just around the corner.

We understand various youth organizations are being bribed to campaign for their candidates and also incite others against their opponents. This has raised a lot of tension in the country and people are being divided along tribal lines.

We remember how we lost our loved ones in 2007 PEV, we do not want a repeat of that. The Common Mwanachi was the one to suffer the brunt consequences of the violence.

As youths, we are prepared to campaign for peace in this country. We love Kenya, Kenya is our Motherland. We want to be Peace Ambassadors for Kenya.

We will involve all Moi University campuses to launch the peace event. We will get representatives from Kenyatta and Nairobi Universities to join us.
