Mong’are: I am eyeing the presidency

Nyamira senator Kennedy Okongo Mong'are has declared that he will vie for the presidency in the coming general elections.

The legislator who has been the senator for Nyamira county for four years revealed yesterday that he will be seeking the presidency in next year’s General Election to change the political leadership in the country. He said that Kenyans are tired of the dominance by the families of the leading politicians both in government the opposition.

Speaking on Tuesday during the launch of his bid at a Nairobi Hotel, Okongo said that the current government and opposition have very little to offer in terms of development and ensuring that this country achieves its development goals. The senator further said that Kenyans should entrust him with the leadership of this nation because he has good agendas for the country, that will see it realize its development goals.

The Ford Kenya legislator, under the umbrella of Coalition for Reform and Democracy who is yet to announce the name of the party on whose ticket he will be running, revealed that he has the experience and he understands the problems Kenyans are facing. While addressing the press he hinted on how he has been a victim of bad governance which has denied many Kenyans their rights.

Mong'are urged Kenyans to stand up and liberate the nation from the hands of two famous families who have for five decades shaped the politics of the country. He expressed high hopes of clinching the presidency through the good will of the citizens.

The first time senator has received understated threats from opposition leaders and supporters who purport him to be a traitor who is out to spoil the opposition's votes. Some of the leaders said that honorable Mong'are is only serving his selfish interest. They downplayed his ambitions. According to them, there is more the senator need to do before he vying for the topmost seat in the country.

Mr. Mong'are on his side dismissed those who are against his presidential bid saying that only the decision of who will be elected the president lies with the Kenyan people. He also shot down claims that he is out to spoil the opposition's votes in the region. According to him, he is a serious contender who is ready to face of the political heavyweights in the country.

The senator will have an uphill task of consolidating the Kisii region vote bearing in mind that the region is said to be the opposition stronghold. Earlier on, Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache North) and Simon Ogari (Bomachoge Chache) who had decamped ODM and joined Jubilee returned back to ODM after facing hostility from the electorate. This is happening as we continue to experience political realignment in the country.
