The High Court has restrained Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet from arresting Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho or withdrawing his firearms.

Yesterday, Justice George Odunga quashed a decision by the CS directing the Chief Licensing officer Samuel Kimaru to revoke Joho’s firearms licenses.

“This court hereby restrains the respondents from harassing and arresting the governor on the basis of the instructions of the chief licensing officer,” the judge ruled.

He added: “The Constitution is the supreme law that binds all state organs and officials. However, those privileged to have licenses for firearms must exercise caution as firearms is not a symbol of power by those in authority.”
