SECURITY: Tight security at African Women Cup of Nations

Cameroonian police appear to be leaving nothing to chance when it comes to protecting fans attending the matches of the ongoing African Women Cup of Nations, in Yaoundé and Limbe.

Fans entering the stadium are subjected to thorough body frisking and body checks, then scanned by hand-held security wand before passing through a metal detector.

Security checks start while still on the roads leading to the stadium with cars also scanned by metal detector upon arrival at the venue. Interestingly, the assigned security officials are unarmed while on duty.

Other police officers have been assigned to escort all the participating teams to the stadium and back to their respective hotels.

TRAFFIC: Traffic control

To avoid traffic, movement of people to and from the stadium and parking places is well monitored with taxis and ‘bikes’ (motorcycles) restricted.

Taxis and motorbikes are not allowed near the stadium but rather stopped at the cut-off points put in place, forcing fans to walk to the stadium.

Anyone without accreditation or a match-day ticket are also not allowed to come anywhere near the venue.

Tickets are counter-checked by the ticketing handlers’ staff before being granted access to the stadium.
