The Par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club is hosting the annual Chairman’s Prize golf contests.

The five-day contests involve amateur, caddies and professional golfers, all in search of glory on the golf course.

“All participants have a great opportunity to win various prizes in the contests, just like last season,” said Nairobi Golf Club captain, Sammy Itemere, who is also the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology. Itemere said he was impressed with the first round of the championships that began on Monday, adding that the turnout was impressive.

“I am glad the tournament has attracted golfers from all over the country, who are now competing for the coveted prizes in the categories.”

“To distinguish itself from other Chairman’s tournaments, Royal Nairobi Golf club is hosting different contests over five days. We teed off with a caddy tournament on Monday, the pro-tournament will be held on Thursday, while the amateur event will close off the week on Friday and Saturday,” Itemere said.

Sponsors who have come on board to inject support in the tournaments include the Communications Authority, Huawei, Jamii Telecom, DSTV, Posta, the media and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

Yesterday, the event received a boost from various quarters including the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (Sh350,000), Huawei (Sh1million) and Multichoice (Sh1m).
