Keter, Kiunjuri feted by their former classmates

Two recently appointed Cabinet secretaries have pledged to carry out their duties with diligence and to serve all Kenyans without discrimination.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter and his Devolution counterpart Mwangi Kiunjuri said they will work hard to improve the lives of Kenyans.

"My number one priority will be to reduce the cost of energy because energy drives the economy of this country. I am focused on transforming the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and improving service delivery," said Keter.

The two said this yesterday when their former classmates at the United States International University (USIU) feted them over their recent appointment to the Cabinet.

The former classmates and the university community threw a party for the two at a Nairobi Hotel to celebrate their elevation by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega who was in the same Global Executive Master of Business Administration class with Keter and Kiunjuri, led his ex-colleagues in celebrating the success of the two. They graduated from the university in August last year.

"We are celebrating you for being appointed to the Cabinet. We are fully behind you and you have the support of USIU alumni," Kega said during the celebrations and asked the CS's to discharge their duties diligently.

Zahra Moi, wife of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is pursuing her Masters at USIU after graduating with Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration in the same institution, organised the party.

Kiunjuri urged Kenyans to work hard to improve their lives through education. "Any effort an individual takes to further his or her education, no matter how little, has direct impact on the nation's development," he said.

George Achoki, the Dean of the USIU Chandaria School of Business, challenged the two to put into practice what they learned at the institution.

"Our mission at the Chandaria School of Business is to transform our students into future leaders and we are excited for Mr Keter and Mr Kiunjuri for their new posts," said Prof Achoki.
