Rallying call to unite luhyas unveiled ahead of 2017

A Luhyas lobby group in Nairobi has renewed calls for Luhya unity with an aim of uniting members of the 18 Luhya sub tribes in the country.

Formed mid last year, the independent people-driven lobby aims at sparring socioeconomic development in Western Kenya.

The unveiling took place at a Luhya Cultural Assembly dubbed Obulala Festival over the weekend that also saw the inauguration of Western Voters Caucus that will take centre stage in edifying community members about the need to acquire ID cards for the youths, register as voters and turn out to vote during various plebiscites.

Western Entrepreneurship Fund (We-Fund) being a collective investment vehicle for the Luhya Community to fund viable micro enterprises and agricultural projects benefitting youths and women in Western Kenya was also launched amidst pomp and funfair.

The more than 1,000 Luhya community key opinion leaders attending the festival also endorsed the idea of transforming the leadership wrangle prone to AFC Leopards Sports Club into a professionally managed and profitable corporate entity.

The transformation aims to do away with patronage that has prevented one of the country’s most supported and successful club from reaching its potential.
