Kenya: We are ready to lose our seats defending devolution, Senators say

Senators have put on notice the Executive, Members of Parliament and Governors for undermining devolution.

“These guys are thieves, driving a convoy of big empty vehicles in the village,” said senate majority leader Kindiki while referring to governors.

The Senators say they are ready to lose their seats in defending devolution while likening those opposed to the devolution process as pickpockets and thieves interested in maintaining status quo.

Supremacy battles between the senate and national assembly have been ongoing as a section of senators and MPs support calls for a referendum to settle the matter.

“The council of governors is opposed to any moves to merge our referendum push with the opposition. The senate is a major stakeholder in devolution and we will engage each other in a bid to address our challenges,” said council of governors chairman Peter Munya.
