EACC charges former Kenya Meat Commission boss in court, arrests 6 county officials

Nairobi, Kenya - A former Managing Commissioner with the Kenya Meat Commission Dr. Ibrahim Haji Isaac appeared before the magistrate’s court in Nairobi over corruption related offences.

He denied alleged embezzlement of Sh. 3, 000, 000, belonging to Kenya Meat Commission.

The court released him on a cash bail of Sh.500, 000 or an alternative bond of Sh1 million.

The court also issued arrest warrants against the former Secretary of KMC, Ms. Irene Mbito and the former Chief Accounts Officer Mr. Evans Nyaiyo Bikundo.

The prosecutor applied for the arrest of the two after they failed to turn up in court.

Separately, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officers yesterday arrested Turkana County Government Officials accused of corruption.

Those arrested are the Roads CEC Tioko Logiron, the roads superintendent, Lawrence Lolli and the manager of Nadome Construction Ltd, Joseph Elmi Jumapili, and a Bank signatory to Nadome Construction Ltd, Amos Ekitale Ewoi. A director of Nadome Construction is still being sought by EACC officers.

The County Officials are accused of making full payment to Nadome for work not done in respect of rehabilitation of Kaputir-Loyapakainuk Road. The amount involved is Sh9 million.

Two officials of Trans Nzoia County Government have also been arrested by EACC officials. The two, Vitalis Wafula Kamwesa, a Procurement Officer  and Sammy Simiyu Okema a Public Relations Officer in the County Assembly face allegations of  corruption and misappropriation of public funds in the tender to renovate the house of speaker and tender to erect a perimeter wall around the house of speaker, Trans Nzoia County Assembly. The amount involved is Sh19 Million.

All the three cases are part of 124 tabled in Parliament by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
