One killed, three injured in a bus gun attack along Lodwar-Kitale highway

West Pokot, Kenya: One passenger was shot dead after the bus they were traveling in was sprayed with bullets by bandits in West Pokot County.

Confirming the incident, Pokot county commissioner Seif Matata said the bus identified as 'Dayah Express' traveling from Lodwar headed to Kitale was sprayed with bullets by an unknown number of bandits who had hid along the road at Kambi Karai area.

"One person succumbed to the gunshot injuries while three others sustained injuries after the bandits motioned the bus to stop but instead, the driver sped off leading to the shooting," he said.

Matata noted that the incident which took place at 11 am along Lodwar- Pokot road saw the bandits escape from the scene to the bush.

He however maintained that a contingency of GSU and AP officers have arrived at the scene and are currently in pursuit of the bandits.

"The road is currently safe and passengers should not worry about their safety as they are traveling, police have mounted roadblocks along the highway," Said Matata.

He added that the injured are currently receiving treatment at Kapenguria county referral hospital while the body of the deceased is lying at mortuary.

A number of motorists have often complained about the highway bandits who pounce at them as they travel along the Lodwar-Kitale highway.
