Probe places Fidel visited, says NACADA boss John Mututho

NAIROBI: National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) Chairman John Mututho has sent his condolences to CORD leader Raila Odinga's family following the demise of his son, Fidel, and called for thorough investigations.

"It is very painful for a parent to lose a child. I send my condolences to the family. Police should get to the bottom of the matter. And if it is true the deceased had his last drink at a joint at 2am, the joint's operations were illegal," said Mututho.

Mututho said the family was liable to compensation if police found that the entertainment facility was open past the stipulated time or if the drinks were counterfeits.

"Should it be found that he died of lethal drink, the owner of the base will be held accountable and will face the law as all bar owners ought to bear full responsibility of what they sell," added Mututho.

He said there are over 1,000 industries in the country manufacturing counterfeit alcoholic drinks putting consumers at risk as their safety is not guaranteed.

The Nacada boss added: "We are on high lookout for counterfeit drinks and so far, we have 3,300 samples of different brands at our offices which we are looking at with KRA, public health and Kebs to ascertain their quality."
