Members of the county assembly (MCAs) have asked Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to re-name OparanyaCare, a health project he initiated in the county, in order to attract support across the political divide.

OparanyaCare is aimed at reducing maternal mortality in the area.

The project was commissioned last week to run for another four years at a cost of Sh360 million with over 40,000 mothers expected to benefit.

Namamali MCA, Kelvin Olengo appealed to the governor to consider changing the name to 'Kakamega County Healthcare, Afya ya Mama na Mtoto'.

"The project should be supported by all. However, I appeal to the governor to let the name appeal to all people regardless of their political affiliations," said Olengo.
