Senator Moses Wetangula blames insecurity on National Intelligence Service

The Coalition For Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has blamed the National Intelligence Service for the increased cases of insecurity in Kenya.

CORD Co principal who is also Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula said on Sunday that despite huge funding NIS has failed to  detect crimes or provide intelligence to curb insecurity adding that intelligence officers spend much of  their time monitoring politicians instead.

"What we are seeing is NIS spending most of its time spying on politicians and that is why criminals have been having a field day terrorising innocent Kenyas," he said.

The CORD leader made the remarks at PEFA church in Malindi in Kilifi County when he presided over a funds drive in aid of the church.

He was accompanied by Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo in the fund drive that raised sh 1.25 milion.

The Bungoma senator said intelligence service had helped countries like United States, Ethopia among other countries in detecting crime before they happen.
He asked the government to re-organise the spy agency so that it can put to end cases of insecurity being reported in various part of the country.
He at the same time asked the government to lift the curfew in Lamu saying there were other machineries the government should use to improve security in the area.
