KISUMU COUNTY: A man has been arrested at Kaluga Village in Okana Kamidira, Kisumu County for allegedly attempting to defile a three years old girl.

The 30 year old man was said to have gone to the child’s parents’ home where he is well known and started touching the girl suspiciously without noticing the parents who were watching from the house.

Area Assistant Chief Joseph Koyi said the man who attempted to escape from the wrath of the public was cornered by residents and beaten before the chief intervened.

Koyi said statements by witnesses indicated that the suspect who was sitting outside the house on Sunday noon and called the girl.

He then started touching her private parts as if to undress her and peeping around when he was spotted by the girl’s mother.

The mother who was shocked at the scene angrily jumped out of the house and questioned the man on what was going on.

The man who did not answer tried to escape prompting the girl’s mother to raise an alarm which was responded to by angry villagers.

The statement further indicated that villagers then landed on the suspect with blows and other assorted weapons before the chief intervened.

“I was not far away from the scene so I quickly reached the scene before things worsened, but we have to take him to hospital for treatment before he can be taken to police cells,” said Koyi.

Kisumu County Police Commandant David Ng’etich said the suspect would be held at Rabuor Police Station after seeking treatment and he is expected to appear in court on Monday to answer to charges of attempted defilement.

“We are taking the statements and will take the case seriously to reduce any chances of such cases in the area,” added Ng’etich.
