KISUMU COUNTY: A woman has allegedly burnt her inheritor’s house and hanged herself over marital unfaithfulness.

Millicent Awino, 32, from Obumba Village in Ombeyi, Kisumu County attacked Odero Kimuma, 64, set his house ablaze and rushed back to her house where she hanged herself.

A note left behind by the late Awino indicated that she was suspecting that Odero had been cheating on her and was planning to marry another wife.

Witness statements made at Muhoroni Police Station indicate that Awino’s husband died in 2010.

His brother Odero who was also widowed then inherited her and moved in to stay with her in their home which was adjacent to Odera’s.

“The two stayed happily and no one doubted that they were a legitimate couple,” read a statement in part.

Their love however became sour when suspicion rocked the union with Awino accusing Odero of having plans to remarry.

Confirming the Wednesday night incident, Muhoroni OCPD Muthuri Mwongera said Awino moved to her new husband’s house and locked the door from outside before setting the house ablaze.

Odero who was asleep tried to get out finding the door closed when he broke the window and jumped out before raising an alarm. Nothing was salvaged from the house.

Residents who responded to the noise then went to Awino’s house only to find her dangling on a rope tied at the roof of the house.

“We have since located that the deceased had a lot of allegations against Odero but we are investigating the matter. They have however never engaged in any physical confrontation,” said Mwongera.

In the note, Awino accused Odero avoiding her to go and spend nights away from her house, leaving her alone at the new home.

The mother of six children also accused her husband’s brother of being a night runner and had abandoned his responsibility to the family in addition to trying to transmit to her the spirits of night running.

She explained that her attempt to solve the situation failed as the man always avoided giving her an ear prompting her to revenge on him and takeaway her life.

Mwongera said the said man has made statement with the police among other family members.
