Court nullifies Mary Wambui’s election ending speculation

Othaya, Kenya: The Court of Appeal last evening issued a certificate nullifying the election of Othaya MP Mary Wambui.

This now paves way for National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to declare the seat vacant.

The certificate signed by Registrar Vincent Nyakundi was issued three weeks after the appellate nullified the election of Wambui following an appeal lodged by lawyer Peter King’ara.

Yesterday, King’ara who obtained the certificate from the court in Nyeri said process servers had already been dispatched to serve Muturi.

“Some officials at the court were blaming me for the delay but it is them who are supposed to issue the certificate. But this is now water under the bridge,” he said.

There has been confusion over Wambui’s fate since the appellate court overturned her election months after it was validated by the High Court.  On Wednesday, Wambui surprised many when she made a contribution in Parliament despite a court ruling.
