PSC forms team to oversee work terms

Kenya: The Public Service Commission (PSC) has constituted a consultative committee to facilitate the discharge of its mandate with regard to conditions of service for public officers.

The nine-member team will be chaired by Isaiah Nyaribo, the senior deputy secretary at the Ministry of East African Affairs.

Members include Christine Agimba, Francis Anyona, Jane Chege, Hannah Kimemia, Susan Mucheru, Mathias Ndegwa, Joan Machayo and David Kanji.

Unveiling the committee in Nairobi on Friday, PSC Chairperson Prof Margaret Kobia said the team will be tasked with identifying emerging issues relating to medical care for public servants, industrial relations, issues relating to the health sector personnel, harmonisation of schemes of service, performance management in the civil service and to provide mechanisms.

Existing terms

“Specifically, the committee will be expected to take stock of the existing terms and conditions of service, work out modalities of receiving and reviewing terms and conditions of service, develop an institutional framework of reviewing terms and conditions of service, and develop guidelines on review of terms and conditions of service for release to the service,” Kobia said.

She noted that it is best practice for organisations with diverse mandates to function through committees to achieve their set targets.

In constituting the team, the commission looked at ministries with wide mandates and identified eight out of the total 18.
